The Sensible Solution: Complete the Connection and Relieve Congestion
May 2009
The City of Golden has published, "The Sensible Solution: Complete the Connection and Relieve Congestion." This plan is a reasonable solution to relieving congestion and increasing mobility. Instead of the county’s plan to build a superhighway toll road, this plan calls for improvements to existing roads. The plan is published by the City of Golden, however this plan was originally developed by several municipalities and the county a few years ago, but it was abandoned. While public funding for road improvements is tight, the first step is to get our elected commissioners to pursue the “right” plan – and not a toll road.
Improving existing roads provides for easy access to all major arterials – essentially connecting the beltway. This plan also minimizes the impact to open land, curbs sprawl and saves our community from construction of a toll road that has little proven benefit, and probably will never make money.
TAKE ACTION. Contact county commissioners and tell them to STOP the toll road, and rather pursue a rationale, fiscally responsible plan. Improving existing roads is not being considered by county commissioners – only a toll road is being pursued.
