NW Parkway Toll Road - Broomfield
September 14, 2007
The saga of the NW Parkway toll road continues. Broomfield officials approved an agreement with Brisa, a foreign company to lease and operate the NW Parkway. While I can appreciate Broomfield looking for a way to dig out of their mess, the agreement also includes a $43 million dollar incentive to Broomfield if they actively promote a toll road extension through Jefferson County.
Broomfield has reached a new low for local government. It’s not bad enough they made a poor decision to financially support an ill-conceived toll road, but now they have become an agent for a foreign company to force another toll road on its neighbors. However, I don’t see them ever collecting their “bonus”. A toll road extension through Jeffco is as ill-conceived as the NW Parkway, and will never be built. Over the last 20 years, studies clearly indicate improving existing roads, not a beltway toll road, is most cost-effective solution.
