CDOT should heed NW Parkway's turmoil
In its Dec. 17 article, "Northwest Parkway's bonds fall to junk status," the News reported, "Northwest Parkway's $400 million of bonds were downgraded Friday to junk- bond status on Wall Street after the toll road's board backed out of a planned financial restructuring," and, more important, "the 2-year- old toll road's failure to live up to optimistic traffic projections continues to threaten its finances."
If the current Northwest Parkway has failed to attract the amount of traffic and toll revenue predicted when the bonds were sold in 2001, what makes the Colorado Department of Transportation think their projections are correct on the Northwest Parkway link they are proposing through Golden?
CDOT needs do what is right for the citizens of this city, not make up proposals they think will allow them to pay for past mistakes.
CDOT, pay attention! Just because you build a toll road, doesn't mean people will use it. Don't waste any more of our money on unnecessary projects like the Northwest Parkway.
